Universally, it is considered that Richard Nixon was one of the most corrupt politicians in American history, let alone President of the United States. Yet, as the debt ceiling deadline closes in I strangely hunger for the honesty of people in the era of Nixon, because it appears that currently we are living in a society of thieves.
We all suspect it, but there is now proof of just how much theft is going on in government from the organization of Government Gone Wild which shows just how much politicians profit in public office. This is the key behind all the rhetoric we are hearing.
Barack Obama is number 6 on the list of Democrats. You can see the whole list at this link. He became a millionaire between 2004 and 2008…………………how? He was in public office as a senator. Did he sell that many books before his run for President in 2008 which would have shown up as income in 2009? What about the rest of those people? They certainly didn’t have book sales boosted by a Presidential campaign. How did they make so much money?

When Obama says “Rich guys like me are willing to pay a little more,” he says it because he did not earn the money. He stole it while working in public office. And yes, by my definition cheating the game in your favor is still stealing if you use the public trust to enrich yourself. If you’re a pirate, that’s fine with me, I’d expect that behavior. If you’re a thief, again, I’d expect that behavior. But when you are President of the United States and you come on TV every two days and talk about “Washington” as though you are not a part of “The System” then that makes you a liar, a thief and a pirate, and to me, the President is all of those things.
But he’s not the only one. Of the Republicans in this dept debate is Mitch MacConnell. Good ol’ Mitch is on there, which surprised me a bit. But you know who ISN’T on that list? John Boehner, Speaker of the House, which also surprised me. I generally think of John as a straight shooter, but I think of him also as a “big government” Republican. But he is not on the list, which is a small light of hope.
It’s a small light of hope because when it’s hard to figure out who is telling the truth in this budget battle, who would you listen too, the guy who is at least attempting to play by the rules like Boehner is. John is my congressman and became fairly wealthy on his own, for the most part, in private business. So he knows a bit about what he’s doing, or a President who nears the top of all government looters, who would be nothing if not for public service. It is doubtful that President Obama could even hold a normal job outside of government work, let alone become very wealthy on the backs of the tax payers.
Is this acceptable to everyone? Because it isn’t to me. At this point I hunger for the days of “Tricky Dick” because after dealing with people like Barack Obama, I would appreciate the sincere honesty of Presidents like Richard Nixon who we threw out of office for dishonesty over people like Obama who we shower with gifts because he has a pretty smile and says all the right things while stealing money from our pockets. My goodness, how times have changed.
